Article Icon 1Jaguar “Stadium of the Future” Approved

The Jaguars will be playing football in Jacksonville for at least 30 more years. The city council approved a $1.4 billion stadium renovation deal on Tuesday, ending speculation about a potential franchise relocation.

Each side will contribute $625 million to the project. Jacksonville, which won’t levy new taxes to fund the rebuild, would chip in another $150 million in deferred maintenance to get EverBank Stadium ready for construction in 2026.

The deal includes a 30-year lease and a non-relocation agreement. The team will continue to play one home game a year in London, likely at Wembley Stadium.

The “Stadium of the Future” deal now advances to NFL owners for final approval, with owners set to meet in Atlanta in October.

Article Icon 1 Florida Has More Cases of Dengue Fever

The Center for Disease Control and Prevention issued a health alert Tuesday for mosquito-borne dengue fever infections in the U.S., with Florida having the most reported cases among U.S. states.

In Florida, Miami-Dade County has the most infected people, with at least 13 additional cases reported in Palm Beach County.

Most cases are the result of overseas travel, but earlier this week Hillsborough County reported an infection from local mosquitos.

The number of cases globally this year has been the highest on record, as heat and ideal conditions help mosquitos spread the disease. Here are tips from the CDC on how to avoid it.

Article Icon 1 Justices to Hear Firefighter ADA Case

The U.S. Supreme Court agreed on Monday to decide if Sanford firefighter Karyn Stanley can sue for discrimination because the city cut her disability benefits after she retired with Parkinson’s disease.

While Stanley was still employed, the city of Sanford reduced the coverage period for employees who retired due to full disability.

Unaware of the changes, Stanley took disability retirement at age 47 and lost her insurance subsidy benefit after two years.

In October, a circuit court ruled that Stanley could not sue because she was no longer a city employee. Oral argument hasn’t yet been scheduled for the case.
