Article Icon 1Florida Delegates Prominent at RNC

On Monday at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, 125 delegates from the Sunshine State cast their votes for Donald J. Trump as the GOP candidate for President this November.

The former president’s son, Florida Delegation Chair Eric Trump, announced the votes, putting Donald Trump over the number needed to be the official nominee. See the moment here.

Seated next to Trump throughout the night was Florida GOP House Representative Byron Donalds, who spoke at the convention.

Donalds shared the importance of having attended private school, thanking his mother and grandmother, then pivoted to the evening’s theme of “Make America Wealthy Again.” You can watch his speech here.

Article Icon 1State Sees New Wave in Immigration

Sunshine and business opportunities are drawing growing numbers of immigrants from Poland and Eastern Europe to Florida.

The U.S. Census reports Florida is home to 167,150 people born in Eastern Europe. That represents one in five of the 4.5 million Floridians born abroad.

The Eastern European-born population increased by 34% in 2022 from 2012, a faster growth rate than Florida’s foreign-born population overall and faster than immigration from Latin America and every continent except South America.

Florida is the third-largest state by population and the third-largest state in terms of total number of Eastern European immigrants, behind New York and California.

St. Petersburg was named the Best Food City in the U.S., according to a study by InsureMyTrip. It compared the 99 most populated cities in the country, balancing each city’s number of cafes and bakeries, farmer’s markets available, and other features.

St. Pete’s fresh seafood options, affordable prices for a three-course meal, and fantastic coffee were the main factors in its high score.

The study also highlighted the recent news of the plans to develop Central Park St. Pete, a five-story food hall with bars, restaurants, and casual dining spots. It’s slated to open sometime this year.

Cape Coral ranked 10th on the list as the only other Florida city in the top 10. You can see the Top 10 list here.
