Article Icon 1 Panthers Bring Home the Stanley Cup

The Florida Panthers won the first Stanley Cup in franchise history Monday night, beating the Edmonton Oilers 2-1 in game 7.

Winger Sam Reinhart scored the go-ahead goal in the second period, and Panthers goalie Sergei Bobrovsky finished the game with 23 saves.

The Panthers avoided becoming the second NHL team to lose a Stanley Cup Final after winning the first three games, and head coach Paul Maurice raised the cup for the first time in his 26-year coaching career.

Fans littered with the ice with plastic rats, a tradition that goes back to the Panther’s first run at the Stanley Cup in 1996 Finals. Ice rats returned for the team’s next attempt at the trophy last year, and covered the ice Wednesday night by the time Panthers players were hoisting the Stanley Cup in victory. Watch the final moment here.

The mammoth SpaceX Falcon Heavy is scheduled to lift off from Kennedy Space Center carrying the GOES-U weather satellite at 5:26 p.m. today, and it promises to be a spectacular show.

One of the most powerful rockets in operation, the Falcon Heavy is comprised of three Falcon 9 first-stage rockets that blast off in unison to provide the necessary power to carry the weather satellite into orbit.

The GOES-U is the world’s most advanced geostationary weather satellite and will join a spacecraft network that monitors everything from Atlantic hurricanes to space weather.

Here are the best spots along the Space Coast to view the Falcon Heavy launch.

Article Icon 1 Supreme Court’s Ruling Could Affect Florida Gun Case

A ban on gun possession for people under domestic violence court orders was upheld by the U.S. Supreme Court on Friday, and it could refuel a legal battle about a Florida law that prevents people under the age of 21 from buying rifles and shotguns.

After the 2018 mass shooting at Parkland High School, the age-restricting law was passed and subsequently challenged by the National Rifle Association. The court directed attorneys to delay filing briefs until after the Supreme Court issued a decision in the domestic violence-related case.

The NRA argues that preventing people under 21 from buying rifles and other long guns clashes with historical tradition — an argument that Florida disputes. Federal law already prevents people under 21 from buying handguns.
