MCO Disruptions During Tram Replacement
Orlando International Airport (MCO) is replacing four terminal link trams in a two-year, $253 million project that will begin on Dec. 3 and is expected to be completed by fall 2027. Passengers can expect temporary disruptions.
The Gate Link Replacement Project will upgrade the vehicles and infrastructure for gates 70-129. Airport officials said the new trams will enhance reliability, provide a smoother ride, and improve safety and sustainability.
During construction, at least one gate link on each side will remain operational. Shuttle buses will be available 24 hours a day. Officials have advised travelers using rental cars or ground transportation to allow an extra 30 minutes for travel time.
The gates for Southwest Airlines, numbered 100 to 129, will be the first to be affected. Then the work will start for gates 70-99, where Delta operates. The project is part of a $5.9 billion capital improvement plan to modernize and expand MCO.
Florida House Advances Tax Cut Proposals
The Florida House advanced eight property tax cut proposals through their first committees last week, a move that could alter how local governments fund $18 billion worth of services and launch a high-stakes fight with Democrats.
The package, framed as a “buffet” of options for voters, included seven constitutional amendments for the 2026 ballot and a bill offering tax breaks to married couples.
The most far-reaching measure would eliminate all non-school property taxes on primary homes. GOP leaders say soaring local taxes demand action, while Democrats warn of cuts to services and question why lawmakers aren’t tackling insurance costs.
Gov. Ron DeSantis blasted the House plan as “milquetoast,” pushing for a single, unified proposal. The Senate has not yet filed companion bills.
Sen. Rick Scott’s More Affordable Care Act
U.S. Sen. Rick Scott introduced the More Affordable Care Act, calling the Affordable Care Act a “broken system” that the American people are demanding be fixed.
The Naples Republican believes his plan is better than the original, and said, “Obamacare has failed to deliver on its promises: families didn’t get to keep their insurance plans, couldn’t keep their doctors, and didn’t save money—and neither did the federal government.“
The legislation maintains protections for pre-existing conditions, allows Americans to shop for health insurance across state lines, and aims to increase transparency in healthcare pricing.
If passed, the bill would allow states to waive certain elements of Obamacare by establishing a health freedom waiver program. The waiving states would have access to Trump Health Freedom Accounts, replacing the premium tax credits under the original Affordable Care Act.
