Good Morning! On this day in 1994, Terry Dean threw seven touchdowns in the first half of the season opener, setting a record for a University of Florida quarterback. The Gators went on to win 70-21 over New Mexico State.
Southern Living editors tested store-bought ice cream sandwiches and found the Lakeland-based Publix Vanilla Flavored Ice Cream Sandwich a great reminder of childhood. One editor called it “perfect.” Unfortunately, it lost to Texas-based Blue Bell Ice Cream.

Ingoglia Announces Candidacy
Recently appointed Florida Chief Financial Officer Blaise Ingoglia announced Tuesday that he is running for a four-year term for the position in 2026.
The Spring Hill Republican released a campaign video advocating for eliminating property taxes and promising to continue rooting out waste at all levels of government.
In July, Gov. Ron DeSantis appointed Ingoglia, then a Senator, to the Cabinet post. The job opened after former Chief Financial Officer Jimmy Patronis resigned to run for Congress.
The chief financial officer of the state is one of three Cabinet-level positions in state government, along with the attorney general and agriculture commissioner.
Uthmeier Investigates Camera Maker
Attorney General James Uthmeier is investigating a camera maker with Chinese ties that watchdogs warn could put footage from U.S. baby monitors, nanny cams, and doorbells in the hands of Beijing spies.
Uthmeier said he has issued a subpoena to Lorex, which was previously owned by China’s Dahua Technology, as part of an investigation into consumer protection and data breaches.
Available at retailers like Target and Home Depot, Uthmeier expressed concern that Lorex misled Floridians about the privacy and security of its cameras and apps.
“The Chinese Communist Party cannot be allowed to spy on American children. Florida will not tolerate it, and we will hold bad actors accountable,” Uthmeier said.
Miami Federal Judge Confronts Threats
An increase in serious threats to judges in Florida and across the nation has led to calls for increased judicial security.
Miami U.S. District Judge Beth Bloom spoke on the subject in a July 31 webinar. Bloom is the organizer of Speak Up For Justice, a nonpartisan movement. She’s also involved in the Nothing but the Truth campaign, a South Florida education initiative in which judges use social media to demystify the courts.
Threats to judges include bad actors sending pizzas to judges’ homes as intimidation. Some pizzas arrive as being “from Daniel Anderl,” the 20-year-old son of a New Jersey federal judge who was shot dead in the doorway of his family home by an assassin posing as a delivery person.
U.S. District Judge Esther Salas and her husband Mark Anderl, who was wounded in the 2020 attack that killed their son, lobbied Congress to pass legislation to keep judges’ personal information off public databases.
