Article Icon 1Predicting NYC Migration to Florida

Former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, who plans to run as an independent to be mayor of New York City, quipped this past weekend that he would move to Florida if the Democratic candidate wins the race.

Cuomo was defeated in the Democratic mayoral primary by Zohran Mamdani, 33.

Conservative commentator Sean Hannity, who relocated to Florida from New York in January, predicted that a “mass exodus” of businesses and residents to Florida could follow a Mamdani victory due to higher taxes and “burdensome regulations” in New York.

A real estate firm reported a notable rise in interest from New Yorkers looking to relocate to Florida after Mamdani won the primary. ONE Sotheby’s International Realty noted a 50% increase in website traffic from the New York area.

Article Icon 1Tampa Best in State for Renters

According to a WalletHub study of U.S. cities, Tampa was named the best place to rent in Florida and ranked No. 33 nationally.

The personal finance company compared more than 180 rental markets based on 21 key measures of rental attractiveness and quality of life.

The Big Guava lost points for affordability, but was considered among the best places in the country for quality of life, ranking No. 11. Another Florida city—Pembroke Pines—ranked second in the nation for quality of life, though it was last for its rental market.

Overland Park, Kansas; Scottsdale, Arizona; and Chandler, Arizona, were the top three locations overall, with Scottsdale ranking first for quality of life. Arizona won four of the top 10 spots.
