Article Icon 142 States Demand Warning for Social Media Apps

Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody joined 41 other state attorneys general Tuesday in calling on Congress to require a surgeon general warning label on social media apps.

The group cited research linking social media use to depression, anxiety, and suicidal ideation among youth.

The bipartisan group backs U.S. Surgeon General Vivek Murthy’s view that social media is a primary cause of a mental health crisis among young Americans.

Article Icon 1 Governor Addresses Condo Affordability Crisis

This week, Gov. Ron DeSantis provided additional details on proposals the state is considering to address the growing affordability crisis in condo communities.

The governor’s office indicated that potential reforms include extending compliance deadlines for inspections and reserve funding and offering low or no-interest loans to condo associations to meet code requirements under Florida law.

DeSantis intends to hold a special session before the end of the year to finalize the details, rather than waiting for the 2025 regular legislative session.

We do need to do something this year,” DeSantis said at the Roberto Alonso Community Center in Miami Lakes. “I don’t think this is something that you can just put off until next March or April.

Article Icon 1Hypersonic Planes to Test in Jacksonville

The city of Jacksonville announced Monday the groundbreaking of a new hypersonic testing facility on the Westside that will test planes capable of traveling between New York and London in 90 minutes.

The facility, known as HEAT, will be built at Cecil Airport.

The aerospace company Hermeus, tasked with developing the technology to build these aircraft, said the goal is Mach 5, which is over 3,000 miles per hour and five times the speed of sound.
