Article Icon 1Poll: Voters for GOP Candidates, against Taxes

A new University of North Florida poll reveals that about half of Florida voters support a proposal to eliminate property taxes in the state, while 43% do not. Also, potential Republican candidates hold strong leads over Democrats in Florida’s 2026 midterm races.

The survey of 728 likely voters showed that 49% are in favor of eliminating property taxes, meaning that the required 60% voter approval rate to pass a constitutional amendment would not currently be met. Overall, the cost of housing is the top concern among respondents.

Looking ahead to next year’s race for governor, First Lady Casey DeSantis and U.S. Rep. Byron Donalds, both Republicans, surpass former Congressman David Jolly and Orange County Mayor Jerry Demings, both Democrats, by at least 10 percentage points.

The poll asked voters about a plan to end mandatory childhood vaccines, which 62% opposed. About 83% said the Justice Department should release the Epstein files, and 54% support the Trump administration’s handling of immigration enforcement.

Article Icon 1Flying Duck Named in SeaWorld Lawsuit

A woman is suing SeaWorld Orlando theme park for $50,000 after being hit in the face by a flying duck while on the park’s Mako roller coaster in March.

The woman’s lawsuit, filed Monday, said she was riding the roller coaster when a duck flew into the coaster’s path, hitting her in the face and knocking her unconscious. The duck’s condition was not reported.

The lawsuit claims SeaWorld should warn riders of conditions in the park, calling the coaster a “zone of danger” that put the woman in harm’s way by “placing the roller coaster over or near a body of water,” which created a higher risk of bird strikes.

The Mako coaster is the subject of another lawsuit that claims a girl was hit in the face by an object from another rider. The incident also happened in March.

WalletHub compared the 100 largest U.S. cities based on 20 key metrics to determine the best cities for Halloween. Factors include the number of costume stores per capita, the crime rate, and the potential number of trick-or-treat stops.

Hialeah ranked No. 1 for the percentage of potential trick-or-treat stops, while ranking 100th for the availability of candy and chocolate stores per capita. New York City, Jersey City, and Los Angeles were the top three cities.

This Halloween, 73% of U.S. households are expected to spend money on decorations, treats, and costumes for an average expense of $114.
