Good Morning! On this day in 1715, a hurricane hit the east coast of Florida, sinking 10 Spanish treasure ships and killing 1,000 people. The gold and silver on the ships were never recovered.
Later today, we’ll send you an email on behalf of American Hartford Gold, one of our trusted partners, about a bold theory that could signal the start of a once-in-a-generation financial reset. A few of us on the team are already exploring what it could mean for our own portfolios.

Florida DOGE Launches Local Government Audits
Starting July 31, the governor’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) teams will inspect county and city spending records to root out waste, fraud, and abuse that impacts property taxes. The first two audits will be in Broward County and Gainesville.
At Tuesday’s news conference in Fort Lauderdale, Gov. Ron DeSantis called out Broward County for its property tax revenues, which have ballooned by 50% over the last five years while its population rose less than 5%.
Later in the day, at an event in Gainesville, DeSantis said the state wants justifications for tax increases in Gainesville because the city is supporting diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts, a “Green New Deal,” and other initiatives that taxpayers don’t want.
Broward County Commissioner Steven Geller and Gainesville Mayor Harvey Ward said they will comply with the audit.
Uthmeier Leads Challenge on Pre-Game Prayer Ruling
Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier has challenged a decision by the Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) that disallowed prayers to be broadcast over loudspeakers at sports events.
Joined by 17 other state attorneys general, Uthmeier has filed an amicus brief with the U.S. Supreme Court, urging the court to “correct this misinterpretation and ensure that students do not have to hide their faith on the playing field.”
The challenge stems from 2015, when the FHSAA denied two private Christian high schools the right to have a mutually agreed-upon prayer read over the loudspeaker before a game at the Citrus Bowl in Orlando.
“The Constitution does not require state-sponsored hostility toward religion,” Uthmeier said, “especially not in a moment as meaningful as pre-game prayer.”
Space Coast Day
The Brevard County Commission adopted a resolution proclaiming July 24 as Space Coast Day in honor of the 75th anniversary of the Bumper 8 launch. You can see the launch here.
Bumper 8 launched from the Long Range Proving Ground, which would later become Cape Canaveral Space Force Station. It was the first rocket launched from Cape Canaveral and a key event in the early Space Race.
Bumper 8, which demonstrated the potential of two-stage rockets, consisted of a V-2 missile as the first stage and a WAC-Corporal sounding rocket as the second.
