DeSantis Vows Veto of ‘Weaker’ Immigration Bill
Gov. Ron DeSantis took his fight with state lawmakers to the people, hosting a roundtable with law enforcement to warn Floridians that the legislature’s proposed TRUMP Act is too weak and will result in fewer deportations. You can watch it here.
DeSantis promised to veto the immigration reform bill when it reaches his desk. He accused the bill of turning Florida into a “de facto sanctuary state.”
“If you’re really serious about immigration enforcement you’d want to empower us to do the job,” DeSantis said. “They want to neuter the interior enforcement that we’re already doing.”
DeSantis claimed that the legislation empowering the Department of Agriculture with immigration enforcement “gutted all the enforcement provisions” he sought. The bill doesn’t mention deportation but mentions agriculture 23 times, he said.
Frontier says its offer would provide more value to creditors and shareholders than Spirit’s bankruptcy plan, but Dania Beach-based Spirit raised concerns over the deal’s potential to secure regulatory and court approvals.
Under the proposed deal, Frontier offered Spirit’s debtors $400 million and a 19% stake in Frontier, part of a deal with an implied total consideration of $2.16 billion.
Spirit said it expects to exit bankruptcy by the end of March.
Riley Rooting for Super Bowl ‘Three-Peat’?
If the Kansas City Chiefs become the first team to win three straight Super Bowls on Feb. 9, Miami Heat president Pat Riley may celebrate all the way to the bank.
Riley trademarked the term “three-peat” and its variations in 1988 when the Lakers were on the brink of the milestone, only to lose to Detroit in the NBA Finals.
Since then, Riley’s Riles & Company, the patent owner, has collected hundreds of thousands of dollars from those wanting to use the term on post-game jerseys, hats, or other memorabilia.
