Article Icon 1Eight Arrested for DMV Fraud

Eight people have been arrested in a joint investigation by the Bay County Sheriff’s Office and Homeland Security Investigations, accused of running a scheme in which undocumented immigrants allegedly paid for fraudulent driver’s licenses.

“Evidence suggests that hundreds, if not more than a thousand, fraudulent driver’s licenses were issued as part of this scheme,” Bay County Sheriff Tommy Ford said.

Bank records showed “suspicious Cash App transactions,” and investigators seized $120,000 from the homes of two employees of the Bay County Tax Collectors Office.

In 2023, Gov. Ron DeSantis signed a bill that made it a crime to issue driver’s licenses to illegal immigrants.

The 2025 Club World Cup takes place in the United States this year, with teams from across the globe descending on various locations in the U.S. for a chance to win gold. Florida will be prominently featured in the tournament, with three separate venues hosting games in the Sunshine State.

While not quite as renowned as the nationality-based World Cup you usually watch, the tournament will still feature plenty of massive brands: Manchester City, Paris Saint-Germain, and Real Madrid, to name a few.

Inter Miami CF was also selected as one of the participating clubs—likely a strategic move from FIFA to leverage the fame of their star player, Lionel Messi, on the international stage.

The tournament kicks off tonight with Inter Miami playing Cairo-based Al Ahly in Hard Rock Stadium. Tickets for games in both Orlando and Miami are still available, and they’re not too expensive either.
