More Agencies Given Immigration Power
Gov. Ron DeSantis this week authorized more agreements that expand the power of local and state law enforcement and other Florida agencies to enforce laws targeting illegal immigration.
The latest pacts with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement follow last week’s agreement involving the Florida Highway Patrol. The new agreements extend to the State Guard, the state Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, and the state Department of Law Enforcement. The state Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services also is participating.
ICE will train the agencies, and grants will provide the funds to pay for the new duties. Once training is completed, the agencies will be able to carry out most of ICE’s functions.
Also this week, the governor and his cabinet, acting as the state’s new Board of Immigration Enforcement, named Larry Keefe the board’s executive director. DeSantis appointed Clermont Police Chief Charles Broadway to the new State Immigration Enforcement Council that will advise the board.
Seven Officers Suspended Over Triple Murder
Seven officers of the Broward Sheriff’s Office have been suspended following an internal review of the department’s response to a domestic violence case that ended in a triple murder on Sunday.
“It is clear we fell short. We fell short on this one,” Sheriff Gregory Tony said.
The sheriff acknowledged failures in the handling of the case involving 43-year-old Nathan Gingles, accused of killing his estranged wife, father-in-law, and a neighbor in Tamarac.
Gingles’ 4-year-old daughter witnessed the murders and was the subject of an Amber Alert on Sunday.

Spencer Rascoff co-founded Zillow, scaling it into a $16B real estate giant. But everyday investors couldn’t invest until after the IPO, missing early gains.
“I wish we had done a round accessible to retail investors prior to Zillow’s IPO,” Spencer later said.
Now he’s doing just that. Spencer has teamed up with another Zillow exec to launch Pacaso. Pacaso’s co-ownership marketplace is disrupting the $1.3T vacation home market. And unlike Zillow, you can invest in Pacaso as a private company.
With $100M+ in gross profits and rapid international expansion, Pacaso is scaling fast. Investors like Softbank, Maveron, and others are already on board. Even better, the company’s now turning its focus to international markets, giving this disruptive model even more upside than before.
