Cyclosporiasis, a parasitic illness that causes severe diarrhea, has hit 17 states including, Florida, since May 1, with the CDC tracking 145 cases.

Current data indicate that Florida has logged one to 10 cases. Twenty people have been hospitalized, with no deaths reported.

Cyclospora spreads through food or water contaminated with feces and is often tied to fresh produce. New York has reported the most, followed by Illinois and Texas. Investigators have not identified a source.

Cases typically climb from May through August. The CDC urges thorough produce washing and a doctor visit if symptoms appear within a week of eating raw produce.

Article Icon 1Rabid Fox Attacks Girl on Porch

A rabid fox attacked a 5-year-old girl on her front porch in Lowndes County, Georgia, north of the Florida line, latching onto her leg before family pried it off.

The June 28 attack, caught on a Ring camera, came minutes after a neighbor fought off what appeared to be the same fox.

The fox tested positive for rabies. The girl was released from the hospital and is receiving post-exposure treatment.

Days later, Florida health officials issued a rabies alert in Suwannee County after a raccoon tested positive, urging residents to avoid or report animals acting unusually aggressive or tame.

Article Icon 1Trump Airport Signs Go Up

Palm Beach International Airport is officially becoming President Donald J. Trump International Airport, with new signs already going up along I-95 ahead of the July 9 switch.

The renaming honors President Donald Trump, a longtime Palm Beach County resident, and cleared the Legislature under House Bill 919, signed by Gov. Ron DeSantis in March.

The state budget set aside $2.75 million for the rebrand, from terminal signs to baggage tags. The three-letter code stays PBI until Aug. 18, when it becomes DJT.

Some travelers have cheered the new name, though a local pilot has sued to block it.
