Article Icon 1 New Group Opposes Campaign Funding Amendment

Floridians for Open Democracy, a recently launched group, is campaigning against a proposed state constitutional amendment that eliminates public funding of statewide campaigns and the spending limits that candidates must agree to.

Voters will get their say on Florida’s public campaign financing program as Amendment 6 on the November ballot.

Opponents of the amendment argue that eliminating Florida’s matching-fund program for candidates running for governor and cabinet positions would make it harder for people who are not wealthy to run for office.

State Sen. Travis Hutson sponsored a resolution to end the program, saying it has become too costly and is diverting millions of dollars that could be better used elsewhere for Floridians.

Article Icon 1 Florida Top State for Small Business

Florida is the top state for starting a small business in 2024, according to a new study. Texas and North Carolina are second and third, respectively.

The Sunshine State tops the list due to its low 5.5% corporate tax rate and mass migration of consumers and companies.

Over half of Florida’s startup businesses survive for at least five years, and the state ranks high in small business loan approvals.

Florida’s appeal is further bolstered by its lack of state income tax and growing population, with over 318,000 new residents in 2022. You can see the study here.
