Nation’s First Liquid Nitrogen Facility Coming to Lakeland
Lakeland’s utility company will be the first in the country to open a liquid nitrogen generation facility. The pilot program will ensure power for the company’s customers and use a small footprint.
Through American Independent Power, Lakeland Electric will use solar thermal heat combined with liquid nitrogen to generate electricity for about 5,000 homes.
The facility will be located on a half-acre at the Socrum substation in north Lakeland. According to a utility technology manager, traditional solar would need roughly 25 acres to make the exact same power build.
Construction is expected to be completed by the fall of 2026.
According to a survey by The American Promise, on a hypothetical ballot with Lt. Gov. Jay Collins and former House Speaker Paul Renner, Donalds would receive 40% of the vote, while Collins and Renner would each take 2%.
On an informed ballot—a hypothetical ballot voters consider after hearing more information about each candidate, including President Trump’s endorsement of Donalds—the GOP frontrunner’s vote share grew to 57%.
Economic issues are top-of-mind in the race, with six in 10 respondents saying that cost-of-living and spending concerns will most inform their choice of governor. The survey omitted First Lady Casey DeSantis, who has not announced her candidacy.
WalletHub compared the retiree-friendliness of more than 182 U.S. cities across 45 key metrics, focusing on four key factors: affordability, activities, quality of life, and healthcare.
A primary reason Orlando fared well is the lack of taxes. In addition, Florida does not have an estate tax, an inheritance tax, or an income tax. Orlando is also the ninth-cheapest city for homemaker services and the 20th-cheapest for adult day healthcare.
Seven other Sunshine State cities made the list, with St. Petersburg (No. 12) and Cape Coral (No. 20) in the top 20. Newark, New Jersey, and four California cities comprised the bottom five.
