Florida AG Challenges FBI and U.S. Officials
Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody is challenging federal jurisdiction in the investigation of the second assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump.
In a letter sent to FBI Director Christopher Wray and U.S. Attorney Markenzy Lapointe on Monday, Moody asserted that Florida has the legal right to conduct its investigation, given that the incident occurred within the state and involved a Florida resident.
Moody expressed concern that federal agencies may not be fully cooperating with Florida’s investigation, citing reports that the FBI and Department of Justice may be withholding evidence from state authorities.
Moody requested clarification on whether the federal government is formally claiming exclusive jurisdiction over the case and, if so, whether it is correctly interpreting the statute that would preempt state involvement. She requested a response by Friday, Sept. 27.

Florida Hunting and Fishing on the November Ballot
As the November election nears, a proposal to enshrine hunting and fishing rights in the state constitution as Amendment 2 is pitting some Florida conservationists against environmental groups.
Supporters say the measure is needed to thwart any future efforts to ban hunting and fishing and is part of a broader goal to preserve Florida wildlife.
Opponents argue that the measure’s vague wording—it protects “fishing, hunting, and the taking of fish and wildlife, including by the use of traditional methods”—could force the state wildlife commission to approve cruel hunting and fishing tactics.
Hunting or fishing rights have been established in 23 states.
