Article Icon 1Massive Evacuations Underway as Milton Nears

Massive evacuations are underway across Florida as Hurricane Milton, a Category 5 storm with winds near 150 mph, approaches the state’s west-central coast for an expected landfall Wednesday night.

Officials have ordered mandatory evacuations in multiple counties, warning of potential 10 to 15-foot storm surges and up to 18 inches of rainfall in some areas. Follow live updates here.

Governor Ron DeSantis urged residents to heed evacuation orders, emphasizing that “time is running out” to leave before the storm hits.

The impending hurricane has already caused widespread disruptions, including airport closures, theme park shutdowns, and the evacuation of over 4,600 inmates from state jails and prisons. Watch a video of Floridians fleeing.

Article Icon 1DeSantis, Harris Clash as Hurricane Milton Looms

Gov. Ron DeSantis rejected Vice President Kamala Harris’s criticism after she accused him of reportedly refusing a call from her about hurricane aid, calling her remarks “delusional” and politically motivated.

DeSantis emphasized he’s fully focused on leveraging all available resources, including federal support, to prepare for Hurricane Milton, stating he has been in touch with FEMA and President Biden.

The clash comes as Florida braces for the hurricane, expected to make landfall on Wednesday.

A New York Times/Siena College poll published Tuesday shows former President Trump leading Vice President Harris by 13 percentage points in Florida and 6 percentage points in Texas, one month before Election Day.

The same poll shows Harris with a 3-point lead over Trump nationally, 49% to 46%. See the poll here

The poll shows Harris is viewed as the candidate representing change, especially among non-White and younger voters.

However, Trump maintains his lead among male voters and is still trusted more on economic issues.
