The Villages Sets Pace on Age Extremes

The Villages in Central Florida already has the oldest median age of any U.S. city, but it’s also become the fastest-growing metro for young children this decade.

The number of children aged 14 and younger in the Wildwood-The Villages metro area has grown this decade by 18.4%, compared to the national average, which saw a 3.3% decline.

The main reason is that the working-age population in The Villages area has risen by 19.1%, also making it the fastest-growing metro area in the U.S. for that age group this decade.

Florida Ban on Lab-Grown Meat Challenged

Upside Foods, one of only two companies in the country authorized to sell cultivated meat, is suing over Florida’s recently enacted ban on its product, which went into effect last month.

The new law makes selling, manufacturing, or distributing cultivated meat in Florida illegal. Penalties include up to 60 days in jail and fines of up to $500.

Cultivated meat, sometimes called lab-grown meat, is produced by growing animal cells without the need to raise animals.

Florida Office Rent Among Highest in U.S. 

Florida entrepreneurs face rising business space rental costs, with Fort Myers-Cape Coral seeing the nation’s highest yearly increase at 8.3%.

An analysis found that while rental rates for entrepreneurs remained steady in 74% of U.S. metro areas, Florida defied the trend, with 55% of its metropolitan areas increasing office rent prices.

The Miami-Fort Lauderdale-Pompano Beach metro area ranked fourth in the nation for the highest business rent, at $50 per square foot.
