Article Icon 1Condo Relief Bills Signed

On Monday, Gov. Ron DeSantis signed two bills impacting condo owners. The bills strike a balance between structural safety and the financial realities unit owners face.

Calling it the condo relief bill, DeSantis signed into law changes in the regulation of condos and cooperatives, increasing transparency and accountability for condominium associations and providing financial relief for condo owners.

DeSantis also signed House Bill 393 to improve the My Safe Florida Condo Pilot Program and tailor it more specifically to condo owners. It makes condo associations eligible for grants to improve their resiliency against extreme weather events.

The governor started the press conference by talking about the June 2021 Surfside condo collapse that killed almost 100 people, saying that though well-intentioned, the legislation enacted afterward needed adjustments.

Article Icon 1Taking the Lead in Aerospace and Transportation

While at the Florida Activation Event in Paris—a trade mission to attract foreign investment to the state—Gov. Ron DeSantis signed two pieces of legislation last week, establishing programs that further the state’s position as an industry leader in aerospace and transportation.

The first program is the International Aerospace Innovation Fund, which will be administered by Space Florida. It aims to drive global aerospace research, commercialization, and workforce development in the state.

The second program establishes the Florida Transportation Research Institute, offering a center for the state’s universities and aerospace industries to conduct research and innovation.

The bill also provides new funding mechanisms for spaceports and manufacturing projects, protects aerospace interests, and supports next-generation aviation technologies.

Florida State Parks announced the winners of its 2024 Capture the Real Florida photo contest, “showcasing the unparalleled beauty and diversity of the Sunshine State’s natural treasures.”

This year’s competition featured three divisions—professional/hobbyist, student, and mobile phone—inviting photographers of all skill levels to share their unique perspectives of Florida’s iconic landscapes, wildlife, and experiences.

Deb Skinner won the grand prize in the professional/hobbyist division with her photograph, Alligator Sunrise. The picture of Myakka River State Park in Sarasota captured still water, mirrored trees, and a gator basking in the morning glow.

Skinner’s win comes with a $2,500 gift card to B&H Photo, a stand-up paddleboard, a hammock, and a Florida State Parks annual pass. See more photo entries here.
