Article Icon 1State May Prosecute Fauci

Former President Biden’s pardon of Anthony Fauci leaves an opening for incoming Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier to prosecute Fauci for pandemic misdeeds, Gov. Ron DeSantis said.

“We have got a new attorney general coming in. I think he’s of the mindset to look at this to see what the jurisdictional hooks are, to see what, if any, statutes may have been violated,” DeSantis said.

Other states might follow if Florida pursues a case, DeSantis said, without specifying the legal avenues the state’s incoming attorney general would consider.

Fauci “totally botched” the pandemic, according to DeSantis, who also referred to gain-of-function lab research as “treachery.”

With Gov. Ron DeSantis term-limited, potential GOP candidates for the 2026 governor’s race are hinting at runs. When questioned on Real Time with Bill Maher, U.S. Rep. Byron Donalds, R-Naples, responded, “We’ll see what happens.”

Elsewhere, Republican donors who gathered last week in Palm Beach County discussed the possibility of First Lady Casey DeSantis running. Gov. DeSantis is supportive of his wife’s campaign, the Miami Herald reported.

Polling shows Donalds, Casey DeSantis, Agriculture Commissioner Wilton Simpson, and former congressman Matt Gaetz as early GOP favorites with voters.
