DeSantis Urges ICE to Recruit Elsewhere
Gov. Ron DeSantis is encouraging U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to look for recruits outside of Florida law enforcement, asking police chiefs and sheriffs to fight to keep their staff members.
Federal recruitment efforts are tied in part to the $170.7 billion for border security included in the One Big Beautiful Bill Act signed by President Trump. The goal is to add 10,000 more agents in the next five years.
Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd expressed frustration over ICE recruiting deputies from his agency and others, particularly those participating in the 287(g) program, which deputizes local and state law enforcement to assist ICE in immigration enforcement.
Recruitment emails offered a $50,000 signing bonus and other benefits to deputies who join ICE. Judd blamed Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem for the recruitment efforts and demanded an apology.
President Praises Sydney Sweeney
President Donald Trump praised Sydney Sweeney on Monday amid backlash over an ad campaign featuring the actress wearing American Eagle jeans, talking about genetics, and ending with, “My jeans are blue.”
The Euphoria star, originally from Spokane, Washington, bought a $13.5 million oceanfront mansion outside Key West in 2024. Over the weekend, several news outlets reported Sweeney is registered as a Republican in Monroe County.
Critics said the ad was echoing eugenics ideology and was a dog whistle for racist ideologies. Supporters have defended the star and retailer, saying they are taking a light-hearted ad too seriously.
Buffett’s Yacht For Sale
A yacht owned by Jimmy Buffett before his death is scheduled to be auctioned for 24 hours beginning 11 a.m. on Sept. 4. The starting bid is $1,200,000.
The 90-foot Cheoy Lee expedition yacht Buffett called Continental Drifter II was built in 1999 for the singer and Palm Beach resident. It’s the only one designed by noted naval architect Tom Fexas.
According to South Florida-based G3 Auctions, the tri-deck yacht—now called the DoubleYou—has four staterooms and sleeps up to nine guests and four crew members.
Currently located in Phuket, Thailand, the yacht, which originally cost $2,700,000, must be picked up overseas. Click here to see photos.
