Question: What is the name of the 27-foot-long cephalopod preserved within a Sarasota aquarium?

Answer: Molly the Mollusk

Molly was accidentally caught off the coast of New Zealand on March 15, 1999, by a fishing trawler. The 27-foot-long cephalopod was donated to the Mote Marine Laboratory and Aquarium in Sarasota that same year. Since returning from the traveling exhibit Sea Monsters in 2015, the Exploration Gallery (formerly the Shark Attack Theater) now houses Molly’s preserved remains.
