Question: What Florida city was once the cigar-making capital of the world?

Answer: Tampa (Ybor City)

Cigar industrialist Don Vicente Martinez Ybor contracted with the Tampa Board of Trade on October 5, 1885, to relocate his cigar factory to the city. Ybor constructed a model city surrounding the factory where the cigar workers resided. The factory was the focal point for the cigar workers who lived in the area called Ybor City. Thousands of Cuban, Italian, Spanish, Eastern European and some Chinese immigrants were drawn to Ybor City, which became known as the “Cigar Capital of the World.”
