Question: What bridge in Jacksonville was known as the Yellow Monster?
Answer: The Acosta Bridge
The Acosta Bridge was the first bridge in Jacksonville to cross the St. Johns River and was originally named the St. Johns River Bridge. In 1949, it was renamed for St. Elmo “Chic” Acosta, the Jacksonville city commissioner who helped push the project forward. The toll drawbridge was originally yellow and tended to get stuck in the up position.
