Answer: The Wynwood Walls. Developer Tony Goldman spent 2004 to 2006 buying up property in Wynwood, then a fading warehouse and garment district north of downtown Miami. In December 2009, timed to Art Basel, he opened six warehouse facades and 1.65 acres of junk-strewn lot as what he called a museum of the streets. Goldman curated the murals himself until his death in 2012, and his daughter has run it since. The neighborhood around it filled in with galleries, restaurants, and street art.
