Question: What was Intercession City in Osceola County originally going to be called?
Answer: Interocean City
Intercession City was almost given a different name. When the city was planned as a resort, intending to connect the Atlantic and Gulf coasts, it was dubbed Interocean City. The project ran out of money by the 1920s.
Bishop Osie England of the Household of Faith, a Methodist denomination, purchased the area a decade later with plans to start an orphanage. State regulatory burdens forced her to instead build a school for needy children. A contest was offered to find a better name for the city, and the winner suggested Intercession City due to the Household of Faith’s focus on prayer.
