Question: In 1915, Robert M. Beall opened a dry goods store in Bradenton. What modern-day store concept did Beall’s first store employ?

Answer: The dollar store concept, where everything is sold at $1 or less.

In April of 1915, Robert M. (R.M.) Beall opened a simple dry goods store on Old Main Street in Bradenton. He named it the Dollar Limit, pricing everything at a dollar or less. Due to post-World War I inflation, R.M. renamed the store The 5 Dollar Limit in 1920. In 1946, the store took on the family name of Beall’s Department Store.
