Rate Cuts Reach 62,000 Florida Policies

Florida Insurance Commissioner Mike Yaworsky approved rate cuts for four homeowner insurers covering more than 62,000 policies, effective at renewal.

One Alliance North America and Vyrd each received 10.4% decreases affecting roughly 44,000 policies combined. Safe Harbor and Unique won 4.1% and 3.2% cuts, respectively.

Since January 2024, 48 companies have filed for decreases, and 53 sought no change. The 30-day average request is a 4.8% cut, compared with a 15.33% average approved increase in July 2022.

Separately, Kin Insurance announced cuts averaging more than 20% in Broward, Miami-Dade, and Palm Beach counties.

Wrongly Jailed Woman Takes On Flock

Lindsey Isaacs, a Palm Coast woman jailed 13 days over a deadly crash she didn’t cause, testified Wednesday before a Senate Judiciary subcommittee examining Flock’s license plate camera network.

The Florida Highway Patrol arrested Isaacs, 23, in April for an October 2025 crash on Interstate 4 near DeBary that killed three people. Her Dodge Durango had appeared on nearby Flock cameras around the time. Charges were dropped.

Troopers later arrested another woman, and Isaacs is suing the agency.

Chairman Josh Hawley, R-Mo., criticized the CEOs of Flock and three rivals for declining to testify. Flock says its network spans more than 120,000 cameras in 49 states, with searches subject to audit controls. Florida recently ordered local governments to remove the cameras from state roadways.

AL Road Runs through Tropicana Field

The Tampa Bay Rays will host Game 1 of the American League Division Series at Tropicana Field on Oct. 3 after clinching the top seed with Tuesday’s AL East title.

Drew Rasmussen carried a no-hitter into the seventh and struck out 11 in Tuesday’s 6-1 win over the Yankees. Tampa Bay has won all 12 of his second-half starts, a record for an American League team behind one pitcher after the All-Star break. It was the franchise’s fifth division title and first since 2021.

The Rays await the winner of next week’s Wild Card Series, likely the Yankees or Red Sox. They’ll carry home-field advantage through the AL Championship Series and an MLB-best 55 home wins into October.
