Ingoglia Named Florida’s CFO
On Wednesday, Gov. Ron DeSantis appointed Spring Hill State Sen. Blaise Ingoglia to be Florida’s new chief financial officer (CFO), praising Ingoglia as a relentless conservative who has never shied away from political fights.
Ingoglia is a DeSantis ally in the legislature and will fill the remainder of former CFO Jimmy Patronis’ term. Patronis left in April after winning a seat as congressman in the state’s Northwest First District.
The announcement came during a morning news conference at the Grand Hyatt Tampa Bay, where DeSantis stood at a podium with a sign that read, “Number 1 Economy in the Nation.”
The chief financial officer is one of four elected Cabinet positions and runs the Department of Financial Services, responsible for auditing government agencies that receive state funds, regulating the insurance industry, and responding to financial fraud.
Florida Lawmakers Support GENIUS Act
Jimmy Patronis, R-Panama City, and Randy Fine, R-Palm Bay, elected to Congress in special elections in April with the help of the cryptocurrency industry, are backing the first crypto regulatory bill ever adopted by Congress.
The GENIUS Act would allow stablecoins to be backed by real money, potentially increasing consumer trust. President Trump supports the bill, while others oppose it due to consumer protection and corruption concerns.
A $50 million “G House” is “one of the largest, new construction waterfront homes in Miami Dade, if not the largest,” according to its developer, Manny Angelo Varas. It may hold the key to building in flood zones.
The flood-proof bunker is in suburban Palmetto Bay on a waterfront plot along a flood-prone area of Biscayne Bay. Its air-conditioned living space encompasses 26,000 square feet.
The property, which includes a private, three-hole golf course and a $1 million elevated infinity pool, is designed to survive Category 5 winds and once-in-a-century floods.
Varas initially intended to use a house called Casa Costanera in a new development in Coral Gables as his family home. He points to it as an example of a flood and hurricane-resistant home.
