Florida consumers began the year with more optimism, according to a survey by the University of Florida.

The statewide consumer sentiment index rose to 86.9 in January, up from 86.7 in December, indicating a positive outlook for Florida’s economic growth.

The index gained for the third consecutive month. Before November and the U.S. presidential election, sentiment was sliding among Floridians.

The Michelin Guide is expanding, with restaurants in Greater Fort Lauderdale, the Palm Beaches, and St. Pete-Clearwater added this year and a statewide expansion planned for next year.

The guide is considered the world’s most influential restaurant rating system. Miami, Tampa, and Orlando were added in 2022.

In Miami, 14 restaurants have received a coveted Michelin star, including the two-starred L’Atelier de Joël Robuchon, the only restaurant in Florida with more than one star.

Anonymous Michelin Guide inspectors are already reviewing restaurants in the newly added cities, ahead of the release of the 2025 edition, set for later this year.

Somalia is facing a devastating combination of natural disasters, global conflicts, widespread poverty, and disease outbreaks. East Africa has just endured its worst drought in 40 years, leaving tens of millions without access to clean water, wiping out millions of livestock, and destroying crops. With domestic food production crippled, Somalia has relied heavily on imports—90% of its wheat coming from Russia and Ukraine—until those shipments stopped.

Now, two in five children in Somalia suffer from acute malnutrition, and cholera is spreading in some regions. The food crisis, compounded by global humanitarian aid being redirected to Europe and the Middle East, has created a perfect storm, leading to a sharp rise in child malnutrition.
