Florida Opens ‘Deportation Depot’

Florida opened its second immigration detention facility, dubbed “Deportation Depot,” at the former Baker County Correctional Institution this week, Gov. Ron DeSantis said Friday.

“We’ll use as many of the detention spaces as we can. We want to fill them up. We want (to) deliver on this mission,” Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier said.

Currently, 117 detainees have arrived at the facility, and officials have provided photos from the first day.

USF Upsets No. 13 Florida

Nico Gramatica kicked a 20-yard field goal as time expired, lifting South Florida past No. 13 Florida 18-16 at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium in Gainesville. It was USF’s first win over the Gators in four meetings.

Bulls quarterback Byrum Brown completed 23 of 36 passes for 263 yards and a touchdown. USF outgained Florida 391-355, while the Gators committed 11 penalties for 103 yards.

Florida entered as a 17.5-point favorite. The victory marked USF’s first over a power-conference opponent since the 2023 Boca Raton Bowl, when the Bulls beat Syracuse.

Florida Ranks 2nd Most Financially Distressed

Florida is now one of the most financially stressed states in the country, ranking second only to Texas, according to WalletHub.

Louisiana, Nevada, and South Carolina rounded out the top five most distressed states.

The data set included factors like the average credit score, the change in the number of bankruptcy filings between March 2024 and March 2025, and the share of people with accounts in distress.

Florida topped the list for the share of people with accounts in distress and having one of the nation’s worst average credit scores.
