Article Icon 16,000 Immigration Arrests Announced

Florida law enforcement officers have arrested more than 6,000 people suspected of being in the country illegally over the last five months, a U.S. Border Patrol official said Friday in Tallahassee.

The state will receive $28 million in funding for immigration enforcement, with an additional $10 million directed to local law enforcement for transportation and equipment.

Reaffirming the state’s backing of Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Gov. Ron DeSantis issued a pointed warning to protesters.

Florida is not Portland. If you think you can go and launch attacks against ICE agents in this state, you’ve got another thing coming. We will hold you accountable very swiftly and very severely,” DeSantis said.

Potential Tropical Depression 9 will likely become Tropical Storm Imelda by the end of the weekend, with strong winds and isolated showers expected along the Eastern coast.

The strongest impacts are expected to be felt today and Monday, including 7- to 9-foot waves and an increased risk of rip currents, which are already high.

Just last week, lifeguards in Volusia County pulled nearly 230 people from rip currents over a two-day period.

Article Icon 1Boca Raton Makes List of Expensive College Towns

Redfin released a list of the top 10 most expensive college towns, ranked by median home-sale price, and Boca Raton came in second, bested only by Santa Barbara, California.

To be considered a college town, a city’s population must be at least 10% students at a four-year, accredited university, and it must be at least 30 miles away from a metro area with a population of more than 1 million people.

Both of the top college towns are beachfront, driving up home values. Boca Raton, home to Florida Atlantic University, has a median home price of $822,701, while Santa Barbara’s median home price was $1,964,170.

Flagstaff, Arizona; Corvallis, Oregon; and Orem, Utah rounded out the top five. See the full list.

Dear Flyover Reader,

Since launching our crowdfunding campaign to open Flyover ownership to readers, we’ve been both overwhelmed and humbled by the response. More than a thousand readers have already joined us as investors—and they’re now part of our ownership team.
