Article Icon 1Concealed Carry Age Limit Ruled Unconstitutional

A Broward County circuit judge ruled on Friday that a state law barring people under age 21 from carrying concealed weapons violates Second Amendment rights.

The case began in March when police responded to a disabled vehicle call and observed 19-year-old Joel Walkes with a concealed firearm in his waistband. He was charged with a third-degree felony, but the judge dismissed the charges as part of his ruling.

However, the broader implications remain unknown, with Broward Public Defender Gordon Weekes saying, “It is my position that this applies to this particular gentleman and will not be settled until or unless it is presented before an appellate court.

The state is expected to appeal the decision.

Article Icon 1Feds Investigating Mail Stuffed in Drain

Hundreds of pieces of mail were found stuffed in a storm drain in Avalon Park in Orange County last week, prompting neighbors to contact the sheriff’s office and the postal service.

All I know is that when I woke up, they were fishing stuff out of the drain over there. In the end they had three bags,” resident Kim Messer said.

Some neighbors think a stolen master key may have been used, and the postal service confirmed it was investigating a possible “mail theft ring” in the broader Orlando area.
