Article Icon 1Trump Pitches Air Show at KSC

President Trump wants to turn Kennedy Space Center’s old shuttle runway into the home of the world’s biggest air show.

Speaking Friday at the Up Summit, Trump said the former Shuttle Landing Facility will become a 1,900-acre venue for aviation and space showcases. He predicted it would draw hundreds of thousands of visitors a year and generate billions in economic activity.

“We’re going to do a bigger and better, grander version than the Paris Air Show,” Trump said, predicting the U.S. would host the world’s largest air show within two years.

He also said NASA will launch a nuclear-powered spacecraft to Mars within two years. The remarks opened NASA’s weekend MAX POWER expo, which features Air Force Thunderbirds performances and the Artemis III crew.

Article Icon 1Brevard Seeks Federal Flood Aid

Brevard County is building its case for federal disaster aid after record rains damaged more than 2,000 homes.

The National Weather Service measured 24.69 inches of rain in Grant-Valkaria and 22 inches in Palm Bay over Nov. 1-2. Forecasters issued a flash flood emergency, their most urgent alert, for Palm Bay and West Melbourne.

To qualify for FEMA help, the county must document at least $3 million in damage, and statewide losses must top $42 million. Officials are urging residents and businesses to report damage online.

Palm Bay’s Dale Johnson lost family heirlooms to 12 inches of water and is now paying for an extended-stay room on a fixed income. “I hate to say it so bluntly, but we need money,” he said.

After joint assessments with FEMA and state officials, the governor would submit the request. FEMA and the president make the final call.

Article Icon 1District 27 Heads to Recount

Republican U.S. Rep. Maria Elvira Salazar’s roughly 1,100-vote lead over Democrat Eliott Rodriguez has sent Miami-Dade’s District 27 race to an automatic machine recount.

The margin is under Florida’s 0.5% threshold, and the recount could begin as early as Monday. A hand recount would follow if the gap shrinks to 0.25% or less.

Rodriguez’s campaign filed a federal lawsuit demanding that Miami-Dade Elections Supervisor Alina Garcia recuse herself from the canvassing board, arguing she has a conflict because her son-in-law represents Salazar in the recount. “Voters deserve impartiality in how their votes are counted,” said campaign attorney JC Planas.

Garcia told NBC 6 she has no conflict and won’t step aside. Salazar said she welcomes the recount and accused Rodriguez of “behaving like an election denier.”
