State Farm announced a 10% rate cut for auto insurance customers in Florida, effective Jan. 2 for new policies and March 14 for renewals.

The insurance company said its auto rates have dropped by more than 20% on average since October 2024.

This isn’t happening by accident,” wrote Allyson Watts, senior vice president at State Farm, in an op-ed published in September. “It’s the direct result of Florida’s legislators and insurance regulators recognizing the impact of rising insurance costs—caused by over-litigation—and being willing to… tackle the real problems.

Article Icon 1Bill Seeks Privacy for Foster Families

State Rep. Fiona McFarland (R-Sarasota) filed a bill on Thursday to provide foster families with more privacy.

The bill would introduce new public records exemptions to protect the personal identifying and location information of individuals associated with family foster homes.

McFarland seeks to shield private information such as addresses of homes, schools, and daycares, to help protect foster parents from retaliation or harassment from individuals who are upset about children being placed into foster care.

WorldAtlas released a list of 11 off the beaten path towns in Florida, with Cedar Key, a Gulf Coast spot with a population under 1,000, topping the list for its historic charm as the second-oldest town in the state.

Each town on the list has its own unique flavor. Cape San Blas provides access to a “forgotten” stretch of Gulf Coast shoreline, while Apalachicola is the largest producer of oysters in Florida.

In addition, Cocoa provides an artsy inland escape, while Dunedin is a coastal brewery lovers’ paradise, and Dunnellon, situated along the spring-fed Rainbow River, provides a paradise for paddlers.

Brooksville brings Old World charm near Tampa while Fernandina Beach, Flagler Beach, Lake Worth Beach, and Cocoa Beach round out the list.
