April is Water Conservation Month

Florida officials are reminding residents that April is Water Conservation Month as the state continues to face a severe drought.

“Water conservation plays an important role in protecting Florida’s water resources,” St. Johns River Water Management District Executive Director Mike Register said in a statement.

On Friday, Modified Phase III water restrictions were announced for Polk, Sumter, Hillsborough, Pasco, and Pinellas counties, requiring residents to limit their landscape irrigation to no more than once a week to help conserve water resources.

Recent rainfall brought some relief to South Florida, as officials on Monday lifted a water shortage warning issued Feb. 5 for Miami-Dade and Monroe counties.

Missile Launches from Cape Canaveral

The Department of War has confirmed that a secretive March 26 launch from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station was a successful test of a hypersonic missile.

The launch was a joint partnership between the U.S. Army’s Portfolio Acquisition Executive Fires and the U.S. Navy’s Portfolio Acquisition Executive Strategic Systems Programs.

Hypersonic weapons fly at speeds of at least Mach 5, which is 3,835 mph.

The Department of War released a photo of the launch.

New Website Tracks Government Spending

Florida State University students have launched a redesigned website to track government spending and schools.

The platform gives users access to public data on education, payroll, and spending. Interactive maps and charts help break down the information.

“The students took the initiative to do the redesign, to clean the data, and to think about the ways that that data can be presented through various visualizations,” Dr. Samuel Staley, the Director of DeVoe L. Moore Institute, said.
