Group Sues Again over Planned Bear Hunt
The conservation group Bear Warriors United has filed its second lawsuit to contest the 2025 Bear Hunt.
After the first lawsuit didn’t go anywhere, “we have shifted our legal strategy, and we have filed it…in the second circuit court of Leon County, the state capitol, and we’re hoping to get an injunction to stop the trophy bear hunt,” explained Raquel Levy, attorney at Atlantic Law Center.
A Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission spokesperson said the agency does not comment on active litigation.
The bear hunt is scheduled to begin Dec. 6.
Miami, Florida Renew Rivalry
No. 4 Miami looks to remain unbeaten, while Florida hopes to reverse a slow start in tonight’s showdown at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on ABC.
Miami has wins over two ranked opponents, including a season-opening 27-24 victory over then-No. 6 Notre Dame and a 49-12 win over then-No. 18 South Florida last week. Transfer quarterback Carson Beck has thrown for more than 800 yards and seven touchdowns.
Florida has struggled after starting the season ranked, losing at home to South Florida 18-16 and on the road at No. 3 LSU 20-10. Quarterback DJ Lagway threw five interceptions against the Tigers last week.
The Hurricanes and Gators first met in 1938, with Miami holding a 30-27 all-time edge in the series.
‘Coolest Thing Made in Florida’ Competition
After more than 300,000 votes cast in three rounds of online balloting, the Florida Chamber of Commerce has narrowed the field in its “Coolest Thing Made in Florida” contest to four companies.
The final four includes Sandvik Mining and Rock Solutions in Alachua County, which produces underground mining loaders equipped with dual diesel and electric systems; Chromalloy in Palm Beach County, which designs and manufactures FAA-approved replacement parts for jet engines; Blue Wind Technology in Escambia County, which builds wind turbine nacelles—generator housings that help power more than 3 million homes, and Arthrex in Collier County, an orthopedic surgical company recognized for its DualCompression Hindfoot Nail implant.
Voting in the championship round runs through Sept. 23 at CoolestThingMadeinFlorida.com. The winner will be revealed Oct. 28.
