Court Asked to Block Florida Congressional Map

Voting rights groups filed an emergency request Thursday asking the Florida Supreme Court to halt the state’s newly drawn Republican congressional map before Monday’s candidate qualification deadline.

The new map, passed in a May special session, could deliver up to four additional Republican congressional seats in the 2026 midterms, according to WUSF. A circuit court judge declined to block it last week, prompting the appeal to the state’s highest court.

Plaintiffs argue corrective maps could still be drafted before qualification opens, calling Monday the last practical window for judicial intervention before the districts lock in for the 2026 cycle.
