Two hundred Marines are deploying to Florida to provide assistance to federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers.

Service members participating in this mission will perform strictly non-law enforcement duties within ICE facilities. Their roles will focus on administrative and logistical tasks, and they are specifically prohibited from direct contact with individuals in ICE custody,” according to a statement released by U.S. Northern Command.

The Marines are the first wave of help to be sent after a request from the Department of Homeland Security.

Sidney Holmes of Broward County received $1.7 million after serving 34 years in prison for an armed robbery that he didn’t commit.

“No amount of money could ever make up as the retribution for those amount of years. I lost my father, I lost my grandmother, and I lost raising my daughter,” Holmes said.

Holmes was initially considered as a suspect based on the color of car he drove and says he has an alibi for the time of the robbery.

Gov. Ron DeSantis cleared the way for Holmes’ compensation when he signed Senate Bill 10 into law last month.
