Vigils were held across the state over the weekend for conservative activist Charlie Kirk, who was assassinated last Wednesday at Utah Valley University.

A lot of people are hurt. When the one speaker got up and asked everyone to raise their hands if they had cried for someone that they had never met this week, and everyone raised their hands,” Ray Hinch, a Charlie Kirk supporter in Polk County, said.

In Fort Lauderdale, mourners lit candles and prayed, followed by singing a rendition of Amazing Grace during a vigil that lasted several hours. 

He was a friend to us. And he had such a special gift of igniting… a passion amongst the youth,” said Brianna Reeves, president of Broward Young Republicans.

Article Icon 1State Funding Sent to Fire Departments

Chief Financial Officer Blaise Ingoglia, who serves as the state fire marshal, awarded $1.4 million in funding to Florida fire departments to ensure that they have the equipment they need. 

Of the funding, $1.04 million went to Sanford Aircraft Rescue for a new firefighting vehicle, while the Satellite Beach Fire Department received nearly $62,000 and the Inverness Fire Department more than $52,000.

An additional 13 departments received awards ranging from $5,000 to over $42,000 through the Firefighter Cancer Decontamination Grant.

By prioritizing cancer decontamination, he’s making sure Florida’s firefighters have the tools to protect themselves from the dangers of the job,” said Bernie Bernoska, president of Florida Professional Firefighters.

Florida ranked ninth in household credit card debt in a recent WalletHub study, with an average of $12,624.

Hawaii ranked first, with an average of $15,052 in credit card debt per household, while Californians, ranked second, have an average of $13,847.
