Good Morning! On this day in 1539, Spanish conquistador Hernando de Soto and his army entered the Apalachee capital of Anhaica (present-day Tallahassee) by force.
The rain continues today in much of the state. Meanwhile, as of Sunday, the National Hurricane Center is monitoring a tropical wave located several hundred miles southwest of the Cabo Verde Islands. The system has a 70% chance of developing over the next seven days.
If you’ve been looking for a smart way to invest in the clean energy boom, today’s sponsor, DiviGas’s breakthrough hydrogen recovery technology, could be the billion-dollar solution the world has been waiting for.

Debate Trophy Named for Kirk
A trophy given to the winner of the state high school debate competition, the Florida Civics and Debate Initiative, will be named for Christian conservative leader Charlie Kirk.
“The tragic assassination of Charlie Kirk underscores the importance of civic dialogue rooted in respect and understanding,” Education Commissioner Anastasios Kamoutsas wrote in a memo to school superintendents. “Mr. Kirk’s example as a champion of open civic discourse reminds us that disagreement can and must remain peaceful, principled, and constructive.”
The civics and debate program, established by lawmakers in 2020, has 330 teams across all 67 counties. Thirty tournaments in the state each year focus on developing civic dispositions and reinforcing what is taught in the classroom.
The championship is held at New College of Florida in Sarasota, which announced last month it would commission a statue of Kirk on its campus.
Proposal Submitted for Tropicana Field
A $6.8 billion unsolicited proposal to redevelop Tropicana Field and the Historic Gas Plant District was submitted to St. Petersburg by developer ARK Ellison Horus, which makes multiple mentions of building the world’s first “festival-ready innovation district.”
Three well-known business leaders, including Cathie Wood, the founder of global investment firm ARK Invest, are behind the vision for a new mixed-use district anchored by housing, cultural institutions, and world-class event venues.
Renderings include a geometric land bridge—also called an “ark” or “utility arch”—over a colorful cluster of buildings, which is the centerpiece of the 98-page proposal. The project includes flexibility for the Tampa Bay Rays, should the team remain beyond its 2028 contract.
St. Petersburg Mayor Ken Welch said the redevelopment of the Gas Plant District remains a top priority for his administration. This comes after the Rays backed out of a deal to redevelop the site. The team has since switched ownership.
Governor Announces Hulk Hogan Trail
From Hogan’s Hangout restaurant in Clearwater, Gov. Ron DeSantis announced that a 2-mile waterfront trail located in the city will honor Hulk Hogan, who died in July.
The Hulk Hogan Trail will be a portion of the Clearwater Trail between Oak Avenue and Coronado Drive. The project, expected to be completed in a few weeks, will feature signs in Hogan’s trademark colors of red and yellow, marking the different exercise stations.
The governor spoke about watching Hogan, whose real name was Terry Bollea, during his wrestling heyday in the 1980s, saying, “I don’t think you’re ever going to be able to find someone who is going to eclipse him in terms of star power.“

Big Oil’s $20B Problem May Have an Answer
Every year, oil refineries burn off 20 million tons of hydrogen during the refining process. That waste is worth nearly $20 billion. With global hydrogen demand projected to triple by 2050, the potential value of lost hydrogen is only going to get bigger.
One company has an ingenious way to capture it.
DiviGas has developed a patented filter that recovers up to 99% of this lost hydrogen. Unlike costly alternatives, the DiviGas system fits directly into the 700+ hydrogen plants already in operation worldwide. That means it can be easily adopted everywhere.

Governments and Corporations Are Pouring Trillions Into This
Global investment in cleaner energy is shattering records: $2.1T in 2024 alone. That’s part of why hydrogen is projected to become a $1.4T market by 2050. And DiviGas is on a mission to capture it.
Hydrogen is key in the production of oil, gas, chemical, and steel. But oil and gas companies lose $20 billion worth of hydrogen annually. DiviGas has developed a patented filter that captures up to 99% of that loss.
