Amazon‘s Project Kuiper is set to launch its first Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellites on April 9 from the Cape Canaveral Space Force Station, going head-to-head with the current LEO broadband leader, SpaceX’s Starlink.

Amazon expects to deploy more than two dozen satellites by mid-April and aims to kick off its service later this year.

With over 7,000 satellites in orbit and more than five million users across 125 countries, SpaceX’s service has changed the global communications landscape. 

Amazon’s plan includes adding over 3,200 satellites for Kuiper’s first-generation system, supported by more than 80 launches. Since 2019, Amazon has invested $10 billion in Kuiper development.

MSC Cruises opened a new cruise terminal at PortMiami with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Saturday, marking the debut of the world’s largest cruise terminal.

The project features cutting-edge technology and can accommodate up to three ships simultaneously, serving as many as 36,000 passengers daily.

MSC will have four ships sailing from the terminal through 2025, including its new flagship, the MSC World America.

Micky Arison, the managing general partner of the Miami Heat, and South Florida native and WNBA star Sylvia Fowles were selected as inductees to the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame on Saturday.

Arison has owned the Heat since 1995. His father, Ted Arison, brought the team to Miami in 1988. The billionaire businessman is also the chairman of Miami-based Carnival Corporation.

Miami-born Fowles spent more than a decade in the WNBA, becoming a league MVP, two-time champion, two-time Finals MVP, and eight-time All-Star. She played for the Chicago Sky and Minnesota Lynx and now lives in Cutler Bay.

Others selected for the honor include Orlando Magic legend Dwight Howard and longtime Florida men’s basketball head coach Billy Donovan.
