Article Icon 1President’s First Public Events Since Assassination Attempt

President Trump will speak today in West Palm Beach after a visit to The Villages, marking his first public appearances following the assassination attempt at the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner in Washington, D.C. last weekend.

Trump has accepted an invitation to serve as the keynote speaker for the Forum Club of the Palm Beaches’ annual event, headlining the nonprofit group’s 50th Anniversary Dinner, at the Kravis Center for the Performing Arts.

The president follows a long tradition of high-profile speakers at the annual event, including the Forum Club of the Palm Beaches’ inaugural speaker, the late former President Jimmy Carter.

Before the dinner, the president is scheduled to hold a 3 p.m. rally at the Charter School at Middleton in The Villages, with delivered remarks to highlight his economic and senior-focused agenda. The Sumter County Sheriff’s Office has issued a formal warning to residents regarding “significant traffic delays.”

Article Icon 1Florida Ports Awarded Federal Grants

Port Tampa Bay and Port Canaveral have both won federal grants totaling more than $44 million to support upgrades and infrastructure. Port officials say the improvements will enhance safety, efficiency, and long-term capacity.

At Port Tampa Bay, a $24 million federal grant will support the port’s Berth 300 Extension Project at Port Redwing, allowing the terminal to handle more vessels at once and move higher volumes. The port will cover $16 million of the total $40 million project.

Port Canaveral secured $20.21 million in federal funding to upgrade cargo infrastructure, part of a broader $37 million expansion effort by the Canaveral Port Authority. The grant will fund the rehabilitation of the north cargo berths, including bulkhead walls, pier decks, and critical equipment.

The grants were awarded through the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Maritime Administration’s Port Infrastructure Development Program. You can see a full list of projects here.
