Article Icon 1Panhandle Faces Life-Threatening Floods

The remnants of Tropical Storm Arthur stalled over the central Gulf Coast on Thursday, leaving the western Florida Panhandle facing life-threatening flooding today.

Forecasters expect up to 10 inches of rain over the western Panhandle, where saturated ground worsens a rare high risk of flash flooding.

Arthur formed off the Texas coast Wednesday as the season’s first named storm, then weakened inland. Its tropical moisture has since fueled torrential rain from Louisiana to the Panhandle.

Officials urged drivers to avoid flooded roadways, where most flood deaths occur.

Article Icon 1Everglades Fires Force Evacuations

Three wildfires near the Everglades in western Miami-Dade County forced about 200 residents to evacuate and pushed smoke across South Florida this week.

The largest, the Quarry 2 Fire, had burned nearly 16,000 acres and was 70% contained as of Thursday, the Florida Forest Service said. A lightning strike near the Metro West Detention Center sparked it over the weekend.

Two smaller blazes, the Well Fire and the Coptic Fire, thickened the smoke over Miami-Dade and Broward counties. Crews battled the flames from the ground and air, and the state closed Krome Avenue between Tamiami Trail and Okeechobee Road.

Article Icon 1DeSantis Signs Citizens Insurance Bill

Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis signed a bill Tuesday steering commercial and condo-association policies out of state-backed Citizens Property Insurance and toward private carriers.

Under Senate Bill 1028, Citizens is barred from writing new commercial coverage when a surplus lines insurer offers a comparable policy priced no more than 15% higher. The law took effect immediately.

State Sen. Joe Gruters, a Sarasota Republican who sponsored the bill, said it returns Citizens to its role as insurer of last resort and limits the state’s hurricane exposure. Critics note surplus lines carriers are lightly regulated, with rates the state does not review.

The Hydration Product We Keep Coming Back To

There are a lot of wellness products out there. Very few become repeat sponsors because very few consistently resonate with our audience the way LMNT does.

The reality is that many people are walking around underhydrated, especially during the summer. Whether you’re exercising, golfing, working outdoors, traveling, or simply spending more time in the heat, your body loses critical electrolytes through sweat.

That’s where LMNT comes in.

LMNT delivers a science-backed blend of electrolytes with no sugar and no unnecessary ingredients. It’s designed to help support hydration, energy, and recovery without the crash that comes from sugary sports drinks.

Even better, they’ve rolled out refreshing summer flavors like Lemonade and Iced Tea that are perfect for warmer weather.
