Attorney General James Uthmeier announced on Thursday the arrests of six people accused in a statewide grand theft ring targeting supply chain trucks.

Uthmeier was joined in Orlando by Police Chief Eric Smith and Florida Highway Patrol Col. Gary Howze. Smith was credited with having “sparked” the investigation, which Howze said began in 2023.

The suspects worked together to steal a total of $7.8 million in 32 cargo theft incidents, involving 51 stolen commercial motor vehicles and 28 cargo shipments.

Uthmeier and Howze credited interagency coordination and teamwork for the arrests, thanking police departments throughout the state. Uthmeier said that the crime ring could potentially grow as the investigation continues.

The board of a district overseeing Universal Orlando Resort voted to begin contract negotiations with Elon Musk’s tunneling firm, The Boring Company, to build a multi-phase transportation route stretching 4 to 5 miles and connecting Universal’s theme parks.

The 25-year agreement will connect Epic Universe to Universal’s main campus and hotels, with the hope that a system of tunnels linking Universal’s popular properties could become as iconic as Disney World’s monorail system.

The Boring Company is known for its expertise in underground tunnels, having dug the Vegas Loop transportation network in Las Vegas. It was one of three bidders, alongside V2R and Sunshine Connection Partners.

The 2026 Miami International Boat Show kicked off with a ribbon-cutting atop the Fontainebleau Hotel in Miami Beach on Wednesday, with the theme of Discover Boating. The 85th iteration of the show runs through Sunday.

Organizers expect the event to generate over $1 billion in economic impact, making the event one of South Florida’s largest annual economic drivers.

The show returned with a redesigned, multi-venue footprint, bringing together world boat debuts, emerging marine technologies, and thousands of exhibitors, industry executives, and 100,000 visitors. You can see the superyachts attending the show here.

A portion of ticket proceeds goes to the Miami Beach Cupid Splash, a nonprofit organization that raises awareness and funds for conservation through an annual polar plunge event on Miami Beach.
