Article Icon 1Isaias Batters Panhandle

Hurricane Isaias killed at least four people after slamming into the Panhandle near Destin late Friday as a Category 2 storm with winds up to 110 mph, before carving a path of damage to the Carolinas.

Escambia County’s sheriff said a woman died when a tree fell on a home, and a man was found dead in a closed garage where he’d been running a generator. Alabama reported the other two deaths.

Some of the strongest gusts hit Milton, 15 miles inland, where a tree crashed onto 77-year-old Phyllis Hennebery’s house while she was lying down in her room. More than 150,000 Florida customers were still without power Monday morning.

Article Icon 1Isaias Tests Florida’s Insurance Market

Hurricane Isaias’ Category 2 landfall near Destin is the first real test of Florida’s home insurance market since Hurricane Milton in 2024, as the market climbs back from years of steep rate hikes and fleeing insurers.

The state has asked 60 insurance companies to keep staff on standby as Panhandle homeowners file claims. State Chief Financial Officer Blaise Ingoglia had a blunt message for scammers: “Your butt is going to be in jail.”

Homeowners should expect a hurricane deductible and out-of-pocket costs, said Republican U.S. Rep. Jimmy Patronis, who represents the western Panhandle. The state is opening insurance villages in Destin and Pensacola, where residents can get face-to-face help with claims.

“Do not sign anything,” Patronis said, urging residents to call their insurer before signing with a contractor.

Article Icon 1Florida Population Growth Slows

Just over 510,000 Floridians moved to other states in 2024, and the top landing spots were Georgia at 52,371, Texas at 52,219, and North Carolina at 33,591.

Fewer people are making the trip the other way. About 201,000 people moved to Florida from other states last year, or roughly 551 a day, down from 598,737 at the 2022 peak, according to a University of Florida housing study.

South Florida is the sore spot. Miami’s cost of living now runs 14.1% above the national average, topping New York City’s for the first time. Miami-Dade lost nearly 73,000 residents to other counties and states last year.

Still, Florida keeps growing. Nearly 900,000 people moved to the state in 2024, and more than 50,000 New Yorkers came south in 2023, far outpacing the 28,080 Floridians who went north.

How to Survive 16 Days Underwater

In March, an underwater drone traveled 1,257 miles over 16 days without ever coming up, roughly the distance from Los Angeles to Dallas.

That kind of uninterrupted range underwater used to require a nuclear reactor. But this world-first performance was powered by Infinity’s hydrogen fuel cell technology.

Why’s this a big deal? Unlike batteries that must get bigger to run longer, Infinity’s fuel cells deliver massive performance in small packages. This enables drones to operate without surfacing or recharging, a key strategic advantage for customers like the U.S. Navy.

The Navy isn’t the only one betting on Infinity, either. This tech has also logged 2,600+ hours for NASA. In total, Infinity’s won $60M+ in past and current contracts.

Now they’re scaling production to meet demand and inviting investors to share in their potential. And if you invest by Thursday, you’ll earn 5% in guaranteed bonus stock. Maximize your early-stage Infinity stake before the deadline.
