Question: What Florida city is home to the headquarters of Publix Supermarkets?

Answer: Lakeland.

While the first Publix store opened in Winter Haven, the company didn’t originally have a headquarters location. In 1945, the Lakeland Grocery Company, Publix’s main supplier, was put up for sale. Publix Founder George Jenkins knew this would be the perfect opportunity to expand his business, so he negotiated a deal to buy the company. He acquired the Lakeland Grocery Company’s small office and warehouse, its 19 retail stores and their employees, creating Publix’s first headquarters.
