Article Icon 1Artemis II Prepares for Launch

One of the most significant spaceflight missions of the past 50 years is preparing to launch from Florida’s Space Coast, serving as America’s return to a flight around the moon and a key initial step of NASA’s new strategy to build humanity’s first lunar outpost.

Astronauts Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, Christina Koch, and Canadian astronaut Jeremy Hansen of NASA’s Artemis II mission are scheduled to launch as early as 6:24 p.m. on Wednesday from pad 39B at Kennedy Space Center inside an Orion spacecraft.

At liftoff, the SLS rocket will provide a total of 8.8 million pounds of thrust, achieving a speed of 25,000 miles per hour by the time it reaches space and embarks on a 600,000-mile journey around the moon.

The most dangerous part of the mission will take place from liftoff to the burn into a high Earth orbit, and again during the movements to embark for the moon. Some experts are also concerned about the heat shield used to re-enter Earth’s atmosphere, which experienced unexpected damage during the Artemis I mission.

A Lake Worth Beach man, a volunteer in training, has been arrested and charged with stealing sensitive computer equipment from the Palm Beach County Supervisor of Elections Office.

John Dominick Panicci, 59, is charged with taking an encrypted access key from a voter registration terminal during a March 19 training session in preparation for the March 24 special election. Officials said the key was tied to training databases but warned it could potentially be reverse-engineered for malicious use.

The key was later recovered, along with multiple electronic devices, from Panicci’s home. Panicci faces theft and property charges, with a penalty of up to 30 years in prison. His bail was set at $6,000, with a court date scheduled for May 21.

On his Facebook page, Panicci, a U.S. Army veteran, posted several times, expressing outrage at the Trump administration’s actions.

A luxury waterfront property in Manalapan sold for $68.3 million, making it the most expensive home sale in the U.S. in February. A house in Jupiter that sold for $41 million, and another Manalapan home, were among the 10 highest-priced home sales last month.

The 2-acre estate in Palm Beach County towered above the luxury housing market, even with oceanfront estates and Central Park condos going for more than $50 million, according to a new analysis by Redfin.

According to the county property appraiser’s office, David MacNeil, the WeatherTech founder and CEO, who President Trump nominated earlier this year to the Federal Trade Commission, purchased the mansion.

The mansion is three stories and boasts 16,582 square feet of space with access to both the Intracoastal Waterway and the ocean. The land was owned by Billy Joel, who sold it to Frank and Dolores Mennella in 2018. The mansion was built in 2022.
