DeSantis Signs Florida Farm Bill
Gov. Ron DeSantis signed legislation (SB 290) on Monday to strengthen Florida’s agriculture industry and support rural communities, calling the package “really, really significant.”
The measure, dubbed the Florida Farm Bill, directs the Florida Department of Environmental Protection to review conservation lands acquired since January 2024 for potential agricultural use, allowing sales through easements while exempting state parks, forests, and wildlife areas.
The law prevents high-density development in agricultural and conservation areas, bans commercial solicitation on clearly marked private property, preempts local limits on gas-powered equipment, and establishes new loan repayment terms for veterinarians.
The measure also imposes stricter biosolids regulations, requiring the highest treatment standards before sewage sludge can be applied to land statewide. The law goes into effect on July 1.
South Florida Cities Send Seniors a Rebate
The City of Miami delivered on an affordability promise to senior residents, with rebate checks now landing in mailboxes across the city under a property tax relief program for fiscal year 2025-26 spearheaded by Commissioner Ralph Rosado.
The program provides a 100% rebate of the city’s portion of property taxes for qualifying seniors. To qualify, residents must be 65 or older and own a homesteaded primary residence within Miami city limits. The city processed about 2,300 rebate checks, ranging from $1 to $14,054, with an average of $1,036 per check.
Another Miami-Dade County city, Hialeah, sent rebates this month averaging $539 per household to seniors who met qualifications similar to those in Miami, but also required an income at or below $37,694.
DeSantis Open to Running for President
Gov. DeSantis is not ruling out another run for president, signaling he may again seek the White House after leaving office next year. DeSantis finished a distant second to President Trump in Iowa before dropping out of the 2024 campaign.
When asked about a future bid on Tuesday, DeSantis said, “We’ll see.” He argued that his failed 2024 campaign was more about timing than support, pointing to Trump’s dominance. The governor said he would have secured “like 90%” of Trump’s Iowa base if Trump had not been in the race.
DeSantis secured about 21% in the Iowa caucuses in 2024 before suspending his campaign ahead of the New Hampshire primary, unable to overcome Trump’s popularity despite heavy investment in the state.
The governor faces a potentially difficult path, with 2026 polling showing Vice President JD Vance as a frontrunner in the 2028 Republican primary.

A Final, Stern Warning For Retirees
Economists point to the “Expectations Index” as a key signal of America’s financial health. When the Index is below 80, it’s a major warning sign that a recession is near. In January, it fell to 65.
This isn’t just a dip, it’s a declaration. Our economy relies on a strong job market and confident consumers buying goods. In 2026, America’s working class is cutting non-essential spending.
An HR executive reports: “A worried and distracted workforce, whose concerns have them in ‘survival mode.‘”This “crisis of confidence” may impact those near retirement the most. It indicates deep, structural stress in the framework that supports your 401(k) s and IRAs.
Most 401(k)s and IRAs are designed for “fair weather.” They thrive when the economy is booming. They are not built to withstand the pressure of “a 12-year low in consumer confidence.” Gold is the “foul weather” fund. When expectations drop and paper markets begin to crumble, the rich often turn to physical gold and silver to preserve their wealth.
