Article Icon 1Cuba Attacks Florida-Registered Speedboat

Attorney General James Uthmeier launched an investigation, in conjunction with the federal government, into the Cuban government’s Wednesday attack on a Florida-registered speedboat, killing four and injuring six in Cuban waters.

According to the Cuban government, the boaters were Cubans seeking to “infiltrate the island” and conduct terrorism. Seven of the ten passengers have been named by the Cuban government. A Cuban national has allegedly confessed to being involved in the planned operation.

Responding to the Cuban version of events, Secretary of State Marco Rubio said, “We will verify that independently as we gather more information, and we’ll be prepared to respond accordingly.”

A statement from Cuba’s interior ministry said the “illegal” speedboat was detected by the country’s coast guard one nautical mile northeast of the El Pino canal, off the northern coast of Villa Clara province in central Cuba.

The FBI’s Miami bureau searched a residence in Southwest Ranches, Broward County, on Wednesday as part of an investigation into Alberto Carvalho, the Los Angeles Unified School District superintendent.

Carvalho oversaw Miami-Dade County Public Schools, Florida’s largest school district, from 2008 to 2021. He was named Superintendent of the Year in 2014, and Spain knighted the Portugal-born administrator in 2021 for his work in expanding Spanish-language programs for Miami-Dade County schools.

FBI agents searched Carvalho’s home in California, as well as the LA school district’s headquarters. The purpose of the searches has not been released, and the U.S. Attorney’s Office declined to comment beyond saying they were conducting a warranted search.

Article Icon 1Epstein Investigation Continues

As former President Bill Clinton and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton were deposed yesterday and today in New York as part of a congressional committee’s probe into the late, convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, a storage unit in South Florida exposed disturbing contents.

Financial records indicate that Epstein leased at least six storage units from 2003 until his death in 2019, including a facility in Palm Beach, which was rented on Epstein’s behalf by a detective agency.

An inventory of the storage unit showed a cache of nude photographs believed to be of Epstein’s victims, sex toys, and sex slave manuals. Epstein paid private detectives to stash computers, videotapes, photographs, and other possessions before police raided his Florida mansion in 2005.

A Palm Beach detective noted in a court filing that several items in Epstein’s home “were conspicuously absent” when they arrived to execute the search warrant.
